Aloe vera is a large succulent that is grown for ornamental and medicinal purposes. The "gel" in the leaves is thought to relieve sunburns or be soothing to the skin. Grow in sun or shade, and bring indoors before it freezes to keep it alive over winter. Water only when soil is thoroughly dry, and you can even wait a while after that! It will occasionally bloom, but the bloom is not very showy.
